"From machete to scalpel":

interview with anthropologist Vera Rodrigues

Abstract

In this interview, through the generosity of
Professor Vera Rodrigues and her lucid insurgent
wisdom, it was possible for us to discuss somewhat
disturbing themes and issues, named by Professor
Vera as "the skeleton inside the closet". From the
machete to the scalpel, it expresses what we
transgressively expect as a potent scenario for
anthropological action from a decentralized
perspective, relocating ideas, thoughts, debates and
struggles that have remained on the sidelines for
many years. More than that, the class conversation
with Professor Vera allows us to reflect on the
articulation that anthropology produces with the
identity and political positions of those who do it.
Through her trajectory, told by herself, we can
understand the power of a trodden career, which is
sometimes intertwined with thinking and doing
anthropology.
