Banho, limpeza e cidadania no cuidado em saúde mental

Resumo

A participação na comunidade e a cidadania para os pacientes são ideais comuns que inspiram melhorias na assistência à saúde mental. Mas o que se entende por cidadania? Aqui é feita uma análise das práticas de banho, na enfermagem psiquiátrica, em instituições de saúde mental de longa permanência. São descritos quatro repertórios de banho, cada um orientado para uma noção específica de cidadania. No primeiro repertório, o banho faz parte da privacidade individual; o paciente é “representado” como um indivíduo cuja autenticidade deve ser respeitada, a fim de equipá-lo para a participação na comunidade. No segundo repertório, tomar banho é uma habilidade básica; o paciente deve aprender a cuidar de seu corpo para se tornar um cidadão independente. No terceiro repertório, o banho é uma condição prévia para a cidadania; os pacientes devem ser ajudados a desenvolver seus potenciais para que possam encontrar seu caminho na comunidade. No quarto repertório, tomar banho é uma oportunidade, entre outras, para desenvolver relações sociais; o alcance e a qualidade dessas relações definem um cidadão. Esta análise abre, não a pergunta do se, mas sobre que tipo de cidadania deve ser promovida.
