In this essay, I seek to reflect from the perspective of the catastrophes proposed by Isabelle Stengers on the directions and challenges to the cultural heritage policies that we have experienced in Brazil in recent years and that have gained other tones after the 2018 elections. I speak from my work experiences at the State Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of Minas Gerais (Iepha) to reflect on the so-called “analyzes of cultural impact”. Such processes are increasingly demanded, in the context of environmental licensing and rupture of mining tailings dams. I understand that recognizing the ambivalence of participation instruments as pharmakon seems like a way out for cultivating the art of taking care in public policy.
