Abstract

An actor called Carolina: Memory as Resistance is a reflection about the artistic performance done by the actor/researcher Wilson Rabelo, during the development of the character Carolina, inspired by the book Quarto de Despejo (The Garbage Place,
published in the USA and UK as Child of the Dark: The Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus), written by Carolina Maria de Jesus. In order to understand his creative process, relying mainly on studies of Social Memory and Performance Studies it is necessary to look carefully at his theatre laboratory and at the research and studies about the work of Carolina Maria de Jesus, so that we can eventually question the tenuous lines which bring together memory, body dramaturgy and its expressive behavior as a way of repertoire transmission, resistance subjectivity and knowledge production.
